Ectopic Pregnancy

What's an Ectopic Pregnancy?

When pregnancy occurs outside the uterus it is referred to as ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy occurs mostly in the fallopian tube where the fertilization of the egg and sperm occurs. The fertilized embryo fails to move into the uterus to implant in the uterine wall for development. The main reason of embryo getting trapped in the fallopian tube is due to the damage of tissues of the fallopian tube blocking the passage of the embryo to the uterus. Some reasons that cause fallopian tube damage include smoking, pelvic inflammatory diseases and tubal ligation. An Ectopic Pregnancy can also occur in the cervix or the abdominal cavity.

Ectopic Pregnancy symptoms

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Abdominal and pelvic pain
  • Dizziness and body pain

Ectopic Pregnancy Treatment

The best option to treat ectopic pregnancy is surgery. The development of fetus outside the uterus is dangerous for both the mother and the fetus. When the ectopic pregnancy is confirmed by the doctor, surgery is the best treatment option available. At Greens medical center we offer all the facilities and treatment options for couples who are diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy. Greens medical center is a multispecialty hospital with well equipped infrastructure and have an expert team of doctors and surgeons to help you to recover from any medical conditions and to stay fit and healthy.

Ectopic pregnancy surgical treatment includes removing the fallopian tube section where the fetus is implanted. Ectopic surgery can be done in open or laparoscopic method. In laparoscopic surgery method a small incision is made in the abdomen and a laparoscope is inserted to locate the exact location of the fetus by viewing enlarged images of the uterine cavity and the fallopian tube. At Greens medical center we have an expert team of doctors and surgeons to discuss and fix surgical options with no complications.

Ectopic Pregnancy Removal Procedure

There are two methods of surgery performed for removal of ectopic pregnancy as discussed below:

Salpingostomy:

In this method of surgery a lengthwise incision is made in the fallopian tube and the implanted fetus is removed through this incision. The incision is then left unstitch to close and heal naturally.

Salpingectomy:

In this method of surgery a portion of the fallopian tube is removed. The section of the tube where the fetus is implanted is removed and the new ends are reconnected to allow a passage. This surgery is usually performed when there is rupture of the fallopian tube segment with heavy bleeding.

Both these surgeries can be performed in open or laparoscopic method. In laparoscopic method the hospital stay is less as it is minimal invasive method of surgery. The method and type of surgery is fixed by the surgeon depending on the condition of the patient.

At Greens medical center, we have a team of experts to help you treat and recover from all medical conditions. We have the best medical infrastructure and medical utilities to provide all round care and support to the patients. For any queries related to ectopic pregnancy contact us.
